ARTISTS & ARTISANS ABOUND at FIFTH ANNUAL CIRCLE OF ART
It was a hot July day, but the beautiful trees surrounding Queens Circle provided much-needed shade for the Fifth Annual Circle of Art exhibition. A record fifty-two artists and artisans participated in the popular event created by FOCB member Gayle Martineau.
The set-up for the event started shortly after dawn. Under Gayle’s leadership, Ray Rivard, Hans Shonewille, Donnie Lubberts, and Jerry Pequeen marked off the spaces for exhibitors and positioned signs and banners . Later, other helpers arrived. Maureen O’Connell got ready to sign up people for the drawing of donated door prizes; Shirley Grace set out the FOCB tee shirts and membership applications while Ruth Bruyns and Heather McGowan made sure that everything was running smoothly. They are among the many who assisted in this big effort.
Bob Steckley arrived with his Crystal Beach Candy Company food truck to offer food and famous Crystal Beach Waffles and Suckers to visitors to the art festival.
Judging of the artwork was done by Ward 5 Councillor Don Lubberts and Mayor Wayne Redekop.
And, it didn’t rain. Whew. A special shout-out to Rick Doan who took the great pictures shown below. He has done this for every COA since its inception and is greatly appreciated by participants and viewers alike.
Onward to next July 18, 2020. Some are ready to sign up already for the 2020 show. Registration forms will be available shortly after the new year.
